UK Muslims 'more patriotic' than other British citizens: Survey

London , Mon, 21 Nov 2011 ANI

London, Nov 21 (ANI): The Muslim community in the United Kingdom is more patriotic than the average British citizen, according to a survey.

The poll covering 2000 people, taken by think tank Demos, showed a massive 83 per cent of Muslims saying they were 'proud to be British', compared with the national average of 79 percent.

According to the survey, Muslim Britons were also found to be more optimistic than most others, with just 31 percent agreeing with the notion that Britain's best days are in the past compared to an average of 45 percent, the Daily Mail reports.

"This optimism in British Muslims is significant as - combined with their high score for pride in being British - it runs counter to a prevailing narrative about Muslim dissatisfaction with and in the UK," the report said.

The survey also discovered that courteous and generous behavior inspired patriotism more than institutions such as the monarchy or the BBC.

Around half of people questioned for the survey said they believed Britain benefited from being a multicultural country. (ANI)
