Islamabad, Nov 20(ANI): An editorial in a Pakistan daily has expressed scepticism at the Pakistan People's Party (PPP)'s policies in the Sindh province regarding former provincial minister Zulfiqar Mirza.
A Daily Times editorial says the PPP appears to be in the dilemma over keeping the coalition intact with the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and at the same time keeping Mirza to secure his Sindh voter base.
The editorial notes that the PPP would have to sacrifice Mirza for maintaining peace in the Sindh province.
"Given the fact that Memon and Pitafi were not the only Mirza loyalists representing Sindhi interests, theirs may not be the last casualties at the altar of keeping at peace with the MQM, and keeping peace in Karachi," the editorial says.
The editorial notes that Mirza's initial outburst against the MQM party, its chief Altaf Hussain and the subsequent acceptance of his resignation had evoked scepticism.
Mirza had earlier alleged that MQM leader Altaf Hussain admitted in a meeting with him that he and his party were partners in a United States plot to divide Pakistan.
Mirza had also blamed the MQM party for backing target killers, extortionists and kidnappers to maintain its political influence in the city through terror.
It was widely believed that he would soon return to the party after some time when PPP's Information Minister Sindh Sharjeel Memon was spotted emerging together with Zulfiqar Mirza from the Heathrow airport.
Also, Sindh assembly's resolution against "such people who have levelled false..allegations" without naming Mirza, added fuel to the fire.
The editorial points out that the PPP excluded Mirza's name from the Sindh Assembly resolution due to the pressure of his supporters and loyalists in the assembly. (ANI)
