China escalates campaign against 'dissident' artist Ai Weiwei

Beijing , Sun, 20 Nov 2011 ANI

Beijing, Nov 20(ANI): China has stepped up its campaign against artist and dissident Ai Weiwei to silence his criticism.

The Chinese police has initiated a new probe against Weiwei alleging that he along with his assistant, are manufacturing nude portraits of adult women.

"The whole accusation has no base and it's really fabricated by police," Weiwei said.

Weiwei's supporters have provided him with 1.5 million dollars donations, while some threw money over the wall into his workplace, CBS News reports.

Chinese secret police had earlier detained Weiwei for 81 days, after which he was slapped with a 2.4 million dollar tax bill following his release.

Weiwei said the actions against him indicated that the China's Communist Party was taking revenge for him criticizing the government. (ANI)
