Gaddafi ditched Blair by keeping chemical weapons 'hidden from world' in Libya

London, Tue, 15 Nov 2011 ANI

London, Nov 15 (ANI): Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi broke his promise to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair by keeping chemical weapons hidden from the rest of the world.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has said the new Libyan government had told him that it had identified an arsenal that had been 'kept hidden from the world', the Daily Mail reports.

Diplomatic sources said several sites thought to contain mustard gas agent and other chemicals had been discovered across the country and were now under armed guard.

If confirmed by international inspectors, the discovery will mean that Gaddafi had fooled Britain by claiming that he had given up the country's weapons of mass destruction.

Closer ties between the countries were agreed during Blair's visit to Tripoli in the 'Deal in the Desert' in 2004.

Blair had insisted at the weekend that he was not embarrassed to have forged links with Gaddafi.

"We were used to him being a threat, sponsoring terrorism. He was developing a nuclear and chemical programme. He gave it all up," he said.

Gaddafi was killed by rebels in Libya, but his favourite son Saif-ul-Islam is yet to be traced. (ANI)
