Canberra, Nov 9 (ANI): Wikileaks founder Julian Assange's mother has said that she would demonstrate outside the Australian Parliament House during US President Barack Obama's visit to that country to draw public attention of her son's plight.
Christine Assange has said that she would take part in a protest along with her son's supporters, outside Parliament House on November 17, the same day Obama is set to address a special sitting of the Australian Parliament, the Herald Sun reports.
"Both political parties have been spineless in standing up to the US over this. Whatever the US wants, the Gillard Government is handing it over. And the Opposition isn't much better," she said.
Although security measures are expected to be extremely tight for Obama's visit, Christine said: "I'll get as close as I can."
Meanwhile, Julian Assange has urged his supporters to protest against Obama's visit to Australia.
"I'm asking Australians around the country on November 17th to refuse to celebrate the Obama visit, and instead replace it with a day of support for Julian,"
Last week, Julian Assange had lost a British High Court appeal against extradition to Sweden over sexual assault allegations.
The 40-year-old Australian-born Journalist fears that authorities in Washington will seek his extradition from Sweden to face charges relating to his website's publication of thousands of classified US government documents. (ANI)
