Tokyo, Nov 4 (ANI): The Japanese government has unveiled plans to build a standby city in case earthquake or other natural disaster cripples Tokyo.
The city, to be called Integrated Resort Tourism, Business and Backup City (IRTBBC), will be built on a 1,236-acre site 300 miles west of the capital Tokyo, and would be home to 50,000 residents and 200,000 workers.
It would also feature offices, resorts, casinos and parks, as well as essential government facilities in case of disaster, The Daily Mail reports.
According to wired.co.uk, the potential place to build the city is the site of Itami Airport that is politically unpopular and has been superceded by other airports including Kansai and Kobe.
Hajime Ishii, a member of the ruling Democratic Party, said that the idea behind building the city is to be 'able to have a back-up, a spare battery for the functions of the nation.'
According to the report, a group of planners have requested 115,000 pounds to study whether the project is feasible. (ANI)
