Parramata (Sydney, Australia), Oct.31 (ANI): Over 80,000 people are expected to flock to the Sydney suburb of Parramatta this week for a taste of arts and culture from South Asia as part of the annual Parramasala festival.

The festival opened with a bang yesterday with the Deepavali Fair, an annual Hindu festival of lights, which transformed Parramatta Stadium with rows of lights and fireworks celebrating the triumph of good over evil, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The eight-day festival has more than 120 arts events lined up - everything from DJs, yoga demonstrations and food markets to contemporary South Asian films, live music and dance.

Festival director Philip Rolfe described the event as "a very exciting mix of international and contemporary arts influenced by or from South Asia".

More than 60 international artists, hailing from South Asia, Europe and North America, will perform. (ANI)
