Tripoli, Oct 25 (ANI): Volunteers have cleaned up the Mahari Hotel compound, one of the worst massacre sites in Libya, where a number of Gaddafi loyalists and at least two officials were killed, but no one from the new government had reportedly come to investigate the spot.
According to The New York Times, volunteers had collected dozens of bodies, apparently of people executed on the hotel grounds several days ago, but left other evidence behind, like the plastic ties that were used to bind the hands of victims and shell casings, scattered on the dead grass in patches of blood.
They said the victims included at least two former Gaddafi government officials, local loyalist fighters and maybe civilians, who were apparently killed by former rebels who used the hotel as a base in recent weeks.
Despite being one of the worst massacres of the eight-month conflict, no one from Libya's new government had come to investigate, the paper said.
On Monday, Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, the chairman of the Transitional National Council, had announced the formation of a commission to investigate into Gaddafi's death, acknowledging the fact that the move was taken after being pressurized by the international community, including some who supported the rebels.
However, it was not clear whether anyone found guilty would be held accountable, as he had earlier claimed that the youth who had declared to have shot the former dictator, if proven right, would in fact be treated like a hero. (ANI)
