Peshawar, Oct 25(ANI): Afghan authorities say they are waiting for a green signal from Islamabad in order to send a delegation to Pakistan for talks regarding the investigations into the assassination of High Peace Council leader Burhanuddin Rabbani, according to a media report.
Former Afghan President Rabbani, who had been tasked with trying to negotiate a political end to the war in Afghanistan, was killed on September 20 by a suicide bomber who was supposedly a peace emissary sent by the Taliban leadership.
Afghan officials had earlier complained about lack of cooperation by Pakistan to identify the plotters of the conspiracy to assassinate Rabbani, The Nation reports.
Though Pakistan has assured its cooperation in the probe into Rabbani's assassination, it was angered by Kabul's allegations that the Pakistani intelligence agency- the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) - was involved in the incident.
It termed the "evidence" presented by the Afghan government as a mere confessional statement by one Hamidullah Akhund, stated to be the mastermind of the conspiracy and now in the custody of the Afghan intelligence, and asked Kabul to do proper investigation of the murder.
Meanwhile, members of Rabbani family, including his daughter Fatima Rabbani, who lives in Dubai and has been studying in United Kingdom, have also accused Pakistan of not cooperating with the Afghan government to track down the former president's killers.
Fatima told the BBC that just before his death, her father was seeking a fatwa (religious edict) from Islamic scholars to declare suicide bombings and killing of civilians as un-Islamic. (ANI)
