Malaysian PM asks Indian community to 'have faith in government' for better future

Kuala Lumpur, Sun, 23 Oct 2011 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Oct 23 (ANI): Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak has urged the Indian community to trust the nation's government in order to foster the spirit of cooperation.

"We must have trust in ourselves that we can make a better future," the Star quoted Razak, as saying.

"If all of you give nambikei' (trust) to Barisan Nasional, we can bring changes to the rakyat," he said.

His remarks came after launching the Asathal Deepavali Night at Lebuh Ampang in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Najib said that the Government helps all Malaysians, whether Muslims or Hindu, in need.

The Prime Minister added that places like Lebuh Ampang had seen the emergence of a successful Indian business community.

"We can take them as an example that if we strive hard enough, we all can be successful," he said while addressing thousands of people who turned up for the event.

Najib also said that while Lebuh Ampang should be modernised, it should also maintain its traditional spirit as it was a historical landmark where Indian traders had left their mark. (ANI)
