Membership of 231 Pak parliamentarians suspended over failure to declare assets

Islamabad, Oct 22(ANI): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of 231 parliamentarians for their failure to submit annual statements of their assets and liabilities.

 

The membership of 103 members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and 13 senators has been suspended, The Express Tribune reports.

 

From the provincial assemblies, 58 MPAs from Punjab, 28 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 23 from Sindh and six from Balochistan have been suspended.

 

Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Finance Minister Hafiz Shaikh, Water and Power Minister Naveed Qamar and Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar are among those ministers whose memberships have been suspended.

 

The ECP has stated that the membership will only be restored after the submission of asset details. (ANI)
