Pretoria, Oct 19 (ANI): India, Brazil and South Africa have sought to strengthen mutual cooperation in dealing with militancy, piracy and organised crime.
M Ganapathi, Secretary (West) in the External Affairs Ministry said that joint maritime exercises of IBSA should move to the South Atlantic to benefit from Brazil's maritime strategies.
"One of the issues which was also touched upon from a bilateral point of view, was that the security related activities, as we had IBSAMAR (India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime exercises), should now be moving across to the South Atlantic, around Brazil," he said.
"They could mutually take steps towards combating international terrorism, anti-piracy and organised crime," he added.
Speaking about the wide range of issues covered by leaders during the summit, Ganapathi said that the world economic crisis and the need for reform at the United Nations necessitated wide-ranging discussions.
"The Eurozone crisis of 2008-09, I think since then the situation has become more acute. The question of some of the regional difficulties and the regional situation has become more complicated. Then you have the process of UN reforms, which the countries who form the IBSA and countries without, i.e, bilaterally, trilaterally or quadrilaterally are looking at it," he added.
