Washington, Oct 16 (ANI): A Korean-American fashion designer, who is based in New York, was on top of the world after US First Lady Michelle Obama wore one of her creations to the White House state dinner for South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and his wife Kim Yoon-ok last week.

Michelle looked stunning in a vivid purple, one-shoulder jersey gown designed by Doo-Ri Chung.

"I am just thrilled," Fox News quoted Chung as saying.

"We call it 'ultra-violet'. It's an amazing purple," she added.

Chung, 38, who is a 'Parsons School of Design' grad, found out that Michelle had chosen the draped, jersey dress only as the dinner was getting underway.

"I was out at an event, and I got a phone call. I was just so excited," Chung said.

"I think it's huge that she chose it. As a woman's designer, I have such respect for intelligent, modern women. And who else epitomizes that better than Michelle Obama? I couldn't be happier. It's truly such a great honor," she said.

However, Chung and her team had been kept in the dark about whether the First Lady would choose the dress.

"We knew there was a possibility she might wear it, but we were told we wouldn't know until right up until the First Lady decided. I didn't want to get my hopes up," she added.

Obama's stylist contacted Chung, 38, after seeing a dress in the designer's 2012 show at New York Fashion Week last month.

Chung is known for her beautifully draped jersey creations and was pleased that Obama chose her "signature" fabric for the dress. (ANI)
