Pak, US 'share objective' in Afghanistan but have difficulties at 'operational level': Khar

Islamabad , Sat, 15 Oct 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Oct 15(ANI): Pakistan and the United States have a shared objective of bringing peace and stability in Afghanistan, but have difficulties at the operational level, Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has said.

"There is a common ground, with same objective. Both want peace and stability in Afghanistan. The difficulty is at operational level," Khar said in an interview with PTV.

The Pakistan Foreign Minister termed her recent meeting with the US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan, Marc Grossman, as very constructive.

She said that the statements now coming in from the US were only due to the "common voice" of Pakistani nation depicted through the forums of Parliament as well as the All Parties Conference.

"Pakistan emerged as a nation with common voice," the APP quoted Khar, as saying.

She also recalled her meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, on the sidelines of UN General Assembly Session in the US, as very deep and "intense".

Khar said that she had conveyed Pakistan's position on the situation in the region and highlighted that Pakistan is part of solution and not part of the problem.

The Foreign Minister also said that the US is an extremely important ally and partner of Pakistan, but the latter should not feel itself isolated - a point she also highlighted during the All Parties Conference (APC).

She said that Pakistan wants peace and stability in the region and Afghanistan, but will not compromise on its respect, dignity and sovereignty. (ANI)
