London, Oct 15 (ANI): Although art historians say that Vincent van Gogh committed suicide, a new book claims that the painter died in a shooting accident.
The authors claim that the Dutch Post-Impressionist, who died in 1890 at the age of 37, suffered from anxiety and mental illness, and it would have been unlikely for him to obtain a gun to kill himself.
The new book 'Van Gogh: The Life' is the result of 10 years of research by its authors, Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith, which will reveal that the Dutch painter did not commit suicide.
According to CBS, the new revelations could "rewrite art history" as the authors believe Van Gogh died in a shooting accident, reports the Independent.
Popular belief is that on the morning of July 27, Van Gogh shot himself in the chest with a revolver in the countryside outside Paris, and died from his wounds two days later.
But, the US authors claim to have uncovered new evidence which suggests that the most likely cause of his death was at the hands of a third party, believed to be two local boys with a malfunctioning pistol. (ANI)
