Washington, Oct 13 (ANI): Godfather's Pizza chief executive Herman Cain is now increasingly becoming popular among voters, and has been ranked above presumed front-runner, Mitt Romney, according to a recent poll.
Cain, who has risen steadily in popularity in the past two months, from a largely unknown CEO running for president to a top-tier candidate in the Republican field for 2012, was chosen by 27 percent of Republican primary voters as their first choice for the nomination.
According to the Wall street Journal/NBC poll, Massachusetts Governor Romneyeld firm in second place at 23 percent, while Texas Governor Rick Perry plummeted to 16 percent, from 38 percent in August.
As GOP voters grow disenchanted with Perry and remain wary of Romney, Cain catapulted into the lead in the poll of 1,000 adults, Fox News reports.
According to the report, the question is whether his newfound prominence will be a lasting phenomenon in a campaign that has seen many others surge and then fade.
Since the spring, conservatives have given short-lived supports to various contenders, including Businessman Donald Trump, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Perry. (ANI)
