London, Oct 12(ANI): A man of Pakistani origin has been imprisoned in London for trying to smuggle heroin stuffed inside hollowed radishes.
Ali Amir Shah attempted to smuggle two kilograms of heroin- categorised as Class A drugs in the United Kingdom- through customs at Heathrow airport, The Express Tribune reports.
The drugs were discovered in a shipment of radishes that had arrived on a flight from Pakistan in February.
The hollowed radishes had been cut open, filled with heroin and then glued back together.
Officers valued the heroin at 80,000 pounds, and said that the drugs were meant to be sold on the streets of London through dealers, according to the report.
Shah, who was looking after the heroin before it was distributed to dealers, and was caught following an investigation in February, pleaded guilty at Kinston Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Steven Miles said: "This investigation led to the recovery of a significant quantity of harmful Class A drugs that were destined for the streets of London."
Assistant Director Pete Avery, from the UK Border Agency's Criminal and Financial Investigation directorate, said it shows how sophisticated criminals are.
However, their sophistication was matched by the vigilance, dedication and determination of the officers who uncovered this shipment, he added. (ANI)
