Nawaz Sharif says he desires friendly relations with India, Afghanistan

Islamabad, Tue, 11 Oct 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Oct 11(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif has said that he desires friendly relations with Afghanistan and India, and wishes that all issues with New Delhi, including the Kashmir dispute, get resolved through dialogue.

He said Pakistan, India and the Kashmiris should collectively engage in dialogue for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.

"It is time to move forward by setting aside political differences. If we respect ourselves others will also respect us," Nawaz said during a Geo News programme, 'Lekin'.

"The begging bowl and dignity cannot go side by side. The US threatened me against conducting nuclear tests but I did the job in the best interest of the nation," the former prime minister said.

He said that time had proved that President Asif Ali Zardari had learnt no lessons from the death of late Benazir Bhutto, adding that if he had done something good for Pakistan the PML-N would have been supporting him.

"President Zardari has no political will. He wrote an article on the Abbottabad operation in The Washington Post and called it a great victory; the prime minister [Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani] also called it a great victory," Nawaz said.

"The PML-N is waiting for the report of the Abbottabad Commission [on the Osama bin Laden debacle] and wants to bring all aspects of the incident in front of the masses," he added.

He alleged that the incumbent government had degraded parliament and Zardari was secretly in league with the United States, and said that the elected government should fulfil the aspirations of the masses.

"Democracy is being treated like a housemaid by this government. Everyone should have to follow the law and the constitution," Nawaz added. (ANI)
