Tokyo, Oct 7(ANI): A former Pakistani sailor has been arrested in Ibaraki Prefecture for overstaying his time in Japan by over four years, according to police.
Police said that the 37-year-old seaman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested at a shipyard in Bando, Ibaraki Prefecture, where he was working illegally, The Japan Times reports.
The sailor had arrived in Japan aboard a naval ship in June 2007.
The man was part of a group of 11 Pakistani sailors who went absent without official leave (AWOL) after a sightseeing trip to Tokyo's Ginza district during a bilateral friendship call.
Two destroyers, with a total of 662 Pakistani crewmen, had docked at Harumi Pier in Tokyo three days earlier, the report said.
The eleven men went to Ginza by taxi when they were given some free time and then bolted, the police said.
The arrest means that eight of the 11 sailors have now been seized at various locations nationwide. (ANI)
