Washington, Oct 7(ANI): A new survey has shown that three out of every 10 American teenagers had their Facebook, Twitter or MySpace accounts have been hacked into, and almost half of respondents are upset by cyber attacks.
The survey conducted by Associated Press and MTV showed that the number of hacking incidents have almost doubled in the US in less than two years, the Daily Mail reports.
According to the poll, 72 percent of the respondents knew who had spied into their account, and 65 percent of those surveyed knew the hacker.
A Michigan college graduate, Emily Feldhake's account was hacked after she had used a friend's laptop and closed the browser but had not logged out.
"I knew who it was. It was my friend and I was the one who stayed logged on," she saidccording to the poll, two-thirds of victims of hacking said they had changed their email, or social networking password to avert cyber attacks in future.
Forty-six percent had changed their email address, screen name or phone number, and 25 percent deleted their social networking profile.
Internet Keep Safe Coalition's Marsali Hancock said children, who believe that messages would remain confidential on social networking sites are misled.
"So the parents who actually check in, even just randomly every now and then, really help their child to recognise that everything can be viewed and tracked and stored and moved around," she said.
The poll interviewed 1,355 Americans between August 18 and 31. (ANI)
