Rawalpindi, Oct 6(ANI): The Norwegian government has refused to give official status to Pakistan Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan's recent visit to Oslo to collect the 'Bridge Builder Award 2011' on behalf of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, according to a news report.
The Norwegian government also clarified that the Bridge Making Award has no official worth, The Nation reports.
It said that the award has been purely given by a private and unofficial social organisation to the Pakistani Information Minister, the report added.
It is noteworthy that the Pakistan Government had highlighted in all newspapers and the electronic media that Gilani had been nominated by the Norwegian Government for the award, said the report.
It said that Gilani was nominated for his contribution to bridge the gap between Western countries and Pakistan, besides his endeavours to bring peace in the region.
"The 'Bridge Builder Award 2011' has been conferred on the Prime Minister for his efforts to improve Pakistan's relations with western countries," the Pakistan Government had said in a press release dated September 6, 2011.
"The award is given annually to individuals who make valuable contributions in building bridges between people, religions and cultures. The 2009 award was conferred on the US President Barack Obama and last year, the recipient was actress and UN goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie," it added. (ANI)
