London, Sept 29 (ANI): UK police has reportedly received millions of News International emails that could disclose the full extent of phone hacking at the now defunct British tabloid News of the World.
Detectives from Operation Weeting, who are investigating the scandal, are now scanning over 11 million pieces of international communication dating back "over a period of years", the Telegraph reports.
According to company sources, executives had given the Metropolitan Police access to the extensive archive.
Mark Lewis, the lawyer acting for a number of hacking victims against News International, described the email achieve as "amazing".
"This calls into serious doubt the first police investigation under the former assistant commissioner, Andy Hayman, who described his efforts as 'not leaving a stone unturned'," Lewis told The Independent.
He urged Lord Leveson, who is leading the judicial inquiry into phone hacking, to establish why several police investigations were "so inadequate".
The phone hacking scandal has left an extraordinary mark on British media and political landscape as well as on media tycoon Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation empire.
Up till now 16 people have been arrested on suspicion of phone hacking at the axed tabloid. (ANI)
