Cairo, Sept 29 (ANI): Egypt's ousted leader Hosni Mubarak's powerful information minister has been jailed for seven years on corruption charges.
Anas al-Fiqqi's conviction is the latest by an Egyptian court of former regime figures, the Daily Mail reports.
Al-Fiqqi became minister of youth in Egypt before switching places with Mamdouh El-Beltagui to become Minister of Information in February 2004.
On January 30, 2011, he was crediting for closing the TV channel offices of Al Jazeera in Cairo.
Former state television chief, Osama el-Sheikh, was sentenced to five years in the same case as al-Fiqqi's.
Al-Fiqqi already was acquitted of other charges, including channelling state money to help Mubarak's party election campaigns, the paper said.
Mubarak himself is facing trial on charges that he ordered the use of deadly force against protesters in the uprising that toppled him in February. (ANI)
