Islamabad, Sept 26 (ANI): Pakistan cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has said that funds from the UK are falling into the wrong hands in his country.
Describing Pakistan's current regime as the most corrupt in its history, Khan said: "Unfortunately, aid has been a curse for Pakistan. It is not helping the people, it is disappearing in corruption."
"It is probably disappearing in Swiss bank accounts, or it's going into the army. If we have aid which keeps feeding these governments, it's propping them up. If we don't have aid we will be forced to make the reforms and stand on our own feet," he added.
The Department for International Development currently spends 8.1billion pounds on foreign aid a year, but this will shoot up by over a third to11.4 billion pounds by 2015.
Earlier this year, International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell had suggested hat aid to Pakistan could more than double by then to 446 million pounds to make it one of the biggest recipients, but with conditions of political and financial reform. (ANI)
