Islamabad, Sept 24 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has slammed the US over its top military officer Admiral Mike Mullen's accusation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency's alleged link to the Haqqani network, warning that America should avoid sending 'wrong messages' that would adversely affect bilateral ties between the two counties.
Gilani, who was talking to media, said, "Our 180 million people want to defend their motherland and its sovereignty," adding that the "United States cannot live with us and without us. Thus the US should avoid sending 'wrong messages' which would affect the bilateral ties," the Daily Times reports.
He said the US should take into consideration the feelings of the 180 million people of Pakistan while issuing statements or commenting on important issues.
Although Gilani acknowledged that the US was an important country with which Pakistan wanted good relations, he added that such messages would create political problems for the government of Pakistan in promoting good relations between the two the countries.
Insisting that Pakistan was a part of the solution in Afghanistan and not a part of problems there, he warned that the country will no longer compromise on its sovereignty. He also said that the US cannot effectively fight the war on terror without Pakistan, and asked Washington to increase contacts with the country to remove misunderstandings. (ANI)
