Tokyo, Sept 20(ANI): The Japanese Government has said its websites and the country's biggest defence contractor's website have been targeted by cyber attacks apparently originating in China.
According to the National Police Agency, the cyber attacks, which came on the 80th anniversary of the 1931 Manchurian Incident, affected the websites of the National Personnel Authority, the Cabinet Office and a government video distribution servicehe cyber attacks were in the form of hackers transmitting huge amounts of data to a website to thwart its functioning, the Telegraph reports.
The agency said 90 per cent of cyber attacks had been traced to China, where earlier online messages had been calling for attacks on Japanese websites to mark the anniversary of the 1931 Manchurian Incident.
Hackers also targeted Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., which affected computers and servers at its eight plants.
According to the Japanese media, hackers targeted Mitsubishi 's submarine technology, missile guidance and propulsion data and nuclear plant component information.
At least 80 computers at the company's headquarters in Tokyo were infected with viruses.
Viruses, which are able to steal information from infected computer hardware, were detected at Mitsubishi Heavy facilities in Kobe, the manufacturing site for submarines.
Mitsubishi has reported the targeted the first of the kind "spear attacks" against the defence industry, to the police. (ANI)
