London, Sept 20 (ANI): Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair had sent a personal letter to fallen Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi after a visit to Libya, offering to help him identify African projects to invest in.
Details had earlier emerged of two secret trips by Blair to see Gaddafi in the months before the release of the Lockerbie bomber. Now details of a third visit have been unearthed in Tripoli in a 'Dear Muammar' letter, in which the former Labour leader thanks Gaddafi for his hospitality and tells him he knows of 'good, worthwhile projects for investment', the Daily Mail reports.
The emergence of yet another face-to-face meeting with the Libyan despot, who armed the IRA and whose henchmen murdered WPC Yvonne Fletcher, raises fresh questions about the ex-PM's links with the murderous regime.
In the third dated February 27, 2008, Blair tells Gaddafi: "Thank you for your hospitality during my visit to Libya and for taking the time to meet with me. I greatly appreciated and enjoyed our wide-ranging conversation."
Mr Blair also sent thank-you letters, on the same date, to then Libyan prime minister Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi and to 'Dear Abdulhafid' - believed to be deputy prime minister Dr Abdulhafid al-Zulaytini, one of Libya's most powerful men and a former chairman of the state-owned National Oil Company - for 'facilitating my meeting with the Leader'.
In both letters he urged the two regime leaders to 'do let me know when you are in London' and tells them how to get in touch with his office.
Blair has refused to make public the full extent of his meetings in Libya since stepping down as the prime minister in June 2007. (ANI)
