Kuala Lumpur, Sept 18(ANI): Malay-Indian businessmen have sought 20,000 Indian workers to work in Malaysia.
Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president (MAICCI) Datuk K.K. Eswaran said the total number of workers sought is about half of 45,000 government-approved foreign workers for the country.
According to the Star, the Malaysian Government has approved 80 percent of the applications seeking workers.
"There is currently sufficient supply of foreign workers among the Indian business community, including barbers, restaurants and provision shops," he said.
Eswaran said the chamber was encouraging its members, especially provision and sundry shop owners, to sign up with the Small Retailer Transformation Programme (Tukar) run by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu).
"We will be pushing those with existing provision shops to sign up for Tukar, which provides lower loan interests than commercial banks," he said. (ANI)
