Islamabad, Sept 18(ANI): Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has warned that popular websites like Google or YouTube could be shut down if they did not cooperate with the government to prevent terrorists from using them.
Talking to media persons after attending a high-level meeting at the headquarters of the Federal Investigation Agency in Islamabad, Malik said the administrations of Internet based search engines like Google or YouTube were not extending their support with the FIA to nab the people involved in cyber crime, and that Interpol help was being sought in this regard.
He said that a case would be registered against the Google administrator if it did not help the FIA in future, and threatened that Google could be blocked in Pakistan for non-cooperation, The Nation reports.
The Interior Minister said that the Taliban and other terrorist organisations were sharing intelligence through Internet, and stressed that curbing these activities was imperative.
Malik also said that the terrorists involved in the 2008 Mumbai attacks had used Internet telephonic service based in the United States, and proposed that legal action be taken against the international service provider (ISP) for involvement in cyber crimes. (ANI)
