San Francisco, Sept 17(ANI): Chinese women organization head Meng Xiaosi has said the country is encouraging women entrepreneurs to play a significant role in boosting economic growth.
"Since 1990s, economic development and technological advancement in China have given rise to a strong momentum of women entrepreneurship," All-China Women's Federation Vice President Meng Xiaosi said at an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference.
The conference aimed to find ways to increase women's economic participation in the region.
Xiaosi said China has over 29 million female entrepreneurs, and that many Chinese women entrepreneurs are engaged in high-technology industries, Xinhua reports.
She also said that All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) encourages women entrepreneurs by exploring into new practices, providing policy information and resource support.
Xiaosi also attended a policy dialogue chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and said several Chinese projects have facilitated women's access to markets.
She pointed out that micro credit policy for women had helped over 900,000 women to start their own businesses and created job opportunities for about four million women.
The four-day summit called for concrete actions to maximize women's contributions towards economic growth in the region. (ANI)
