London, Sept 11(ANI): Former British Home Secretary John Reid has warned that the lapse of time since the 9/11 attacks "should not blind us to the continuing threat from terrorism".
Reid said this in the wake of the 10th anniversary of the attacks in New York and Washington.
The 9/11 attacks killed nearly 3,000 people from over 70 countries, including 67 British people.
"The anniversary of 9/11 will naturally re-awaken sad memories of the awful loss of life, not least because the loss of British lives on 9/11 was greater than in any other terrorist attack before or since. We recall with profound sorrow all those who died then and in other terrible attacks of terrorism including on 7/7 here in the UK," the Daily Express quoted Lord Reid, as saying.
"The time of remembrance should also be a time of recommitment to those efforts. The passage of time since 9/11 and our own 7/7 should not blind us to the continuing threat from terrorism. We would be wise to recognise that despite the relative success of these efforts over the past decade, there is absolutely no room for complacency."
"At a time like this it is worth reminding ourselves that the price of our safety is constant vigilance. That is an inherent part of the legacy of 9/11," he added.
Lord Reid had served as British Home Secretary from 2006 to 2007. (ANI)
