Shahbaz for importing 'urgently needed' dengue medicines from India

Lahore, Sept 11(ANI): Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, has directed concerned officials to negotiate for the import of dengue medicines from India to make up for the shortage of medicines there.

 

Shahbaz directed that measures be taken on an emergent basis for meeting the shortage of medicines and equipment against dengue virus and immediate arrangements be made for their import from anywhere in the world.

 

The Punjab Health Department submitted a proposal that said the urgently needed medicines are available in France and India, The Nation reports.

 

While it would take several months for their import from France, it could be imported from India, but there were some problems in this regard, the proposal added.

 

Shahbaz directed the Punjab Health Secretary to negotiate for the import of the medicines from India, and said that in case of any difficulty role in this regard, he would play a role in overcoming the problem.

 

Addressing a meeting of the special emergency committee set up for controlling dengue, the chief minister said that all out measures are being taken for protecting the people from dengue virus, and that special emergency town committees comprising elected representatives are also working round the clock for this purpose.

 

He directed that the campaign against dengue virus should be further accelerated, and in case of shortage of quality medicines and equipment in the country, planning should be made for their immediate import by air.

 

He also directed the Health Secretary to contact owners of private laboratories for providing diagnostic facility to dengue patients at reasonable charges. (ANI)
