Islamabad, Sept 11(ANI): A member of Pakistan's Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has advised politicians not to use the Holy Quran in a bid to achieve political mileage.
"Using the Holy Quran in order to get political mileage is tantamount to joking with the holy Book. It is against the sanctity the Holy Quran deserves," the Dawn quoted CII member Maulana Qari Mohammad Hanif Jalandhari, as saying.
Jalandhari, who is also Secretary General of the Wafaqul Madaris Arabia Pakistan, said in a statement that the Quran should not be used as a shield while fighting political battles.
"Politicians should be extra cautious about it and avoid involving religious values and sanctities in their political battles," he stated.
Without naming anyone in particular, Jalandhari said that some politicians had used the Holy Quran in their press conferences during the past few days.
"This sort of politics is highly regrettable because it violates the sanctity of the holy Book," he said.
The CII member appealed to politicians to desist from trivialising religious values.
Although the religious scholar did not name anyone, he was obviously referring to the press conferences addressed by former Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, the paper said.
The CII is a constitutional body in Pakistan that advises the legislature whether or not a certain law is repugnant to Islam, namely to the Qur'an and Sunna. (ANI)
