Beijing, Sept 9(ANI): Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has vowed to increase rural education investment and improve rural students' welfare as a part of a measure to tackle the uneven distribution of educational resources between rural and urban areas.
He made the promise in a speech delivered to over 1,000 teachers during a visit to a middle school in northern China's Hebei province, the China Daily reports.
Jiabao promised to offer financial subsidies to primary and middle schools in China's central and western provinces to enable them to provide better food for students.
He also stressed on the need to improve the quality of the boarding schools, and underlined the importance of promoting the development of compulsory education, pre-school education and vocational training in rural areas.
He also said that the Chinese Government would increase rural teachers' salaries as a part of welfare measures for nine million impoverished rural teachers. (ANI)
