Dell to collaborate with Baidu to make smartphones in China

London, Wed, 07 Sep 2011 ANI

London, Sept 7 (ANI): China's top search engine Baidu has signed a deal with Dell to build smart phones and tablets.

Baidu will provide its new mobile operating system called Baidu Yi, which is based on open-source Android, and Dell will incorporate the system in smartphones and tablets in the Chinese market.

"The partnership is to provide users with an out-of-box experience, so Baidu Yi will be installed," the BBC quoted Dell spokesperson Adeline Lee, as saying.

Lee, however, did not mention which operating system would be installed on the Dell smartphones.

Baidu also said that it was working with a number of developers and handset makers as part of an alliance to support the Baidu Yi platform. (ANI)
