New York, Sept 6 (ANI): A monster crocodile suspected of being a man-eater, weighing one ton and 21-feet long, has been captured in Philippines.
Extraordinary pictures of the colossal saltwater crocodile have been taken after it was caught alive by villagers in the southern Philippines and has since become an Internet sensation.
"We were nervous, but it's our duty to deal with a threat to the villagers," the New York Daily News quoted Mayor Edwin Cox Elorde as saying.
"When I finally stood before it, I couldn't believe my eyes," he stated.
Local crocodile experts have said that it is the largest crocodile caught alive in recent years and the crocodile is also suspected of attacking a local fisherman who went missing in July.
The villagers began a three-week hunt after the male croc devoured a water buffalo last month but the croc simply destroyed the first four traps set up to capture it.
Heavy-duty traps with steel cables were finally successful in capturing the beast but getting the croc - which weighs about 2,370 pounds - out of the water was a massive ordeal.
It took about 100 people to drag it out of the creek where it was caught and after that it was brought to a clearing, where a crane hoisted it onto a truck and the beast was placed carefully inside a fenced-in area, where the town is planning to create an ecotourism park. (ANI)
