Flying shoes aimed at former Oz PM sold for over $3k at auction

Canberra, Mon, 05 Sep 2011 ANI

Canberra, Sept 5 (ANI): A pair of shoes, which were thrown at former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, have reportedly been sold for over 3000 dollars at an auction.

The shoes, which were sold for 3,650 dollars on an online auction site eBay, were thrown at Howard during a live episode of ABC's Q and A in October last year, the Herald Sun reports.

Peter Gray pelted his shoes at Howard after the former Liberal Party leader answered a question on Australia's involvement in the Iraq war.

Gray had shouted "That is for the Iraqi dead" as he threw the shoes, both of which missed Howard.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard had condemned the attack as disrespectful at that time.

Gray died earlier this year after battling cancer and requested the shoes be auctioned to raise money for charity. (ANI)
