London, Sept 1 (ANI): We've all heard of 'spring cleaning' - the time set aside for cleaning a house from top to bottom.
Now, September has replaced April as the time to spruce up the British homes after weeks of children running around and to get ready for winter.
Known as 'autumn clean', it is now the biggest cleaning event of the year on the household calendar.
According to Tesco, the week following the August Bank Holiday now sees the sales of laundry and cleaning products go up by 25 percent.
Stain removers see a sudden 20 percent rise in sales in August, along with a boom in washing powders and fabric softeners.
"The autumn clean is Christmas for us - it's the biggest sales peak of the year," the Daily Express quoted Tesco's household products manager Simon Marsden as saying.
"Householders want to start afresh at the end of the holidays after the children have been around the house all summer. Our research shows people come back from summer holidays with their batteries recharged, eager to clean up their home ready for the new season," he added. (ANI)
