Beijing, Aug 31 (ANI): Chinese officials have sentenced two Tibetan monks to long prison terms for intentional homicide over another monk's death by self-immolation.
According to Xinhua, a local court in China's Sichuan Province jailed Tsering Tenzin and Tenchum of the Kirti Monastery, to 13 years and ten years in prison, respectively.
The two were involved in 'plotting, instigating and assisting' the young monk Rigzin Phuntsog's self-immolation.
Three days before the self-immolation, Tenchum and Dorje, another monk who would be charged in another instance in Phuntsog's death, sent photos of Phuntsog and Tenzin to a monk via Internet, proving that the self-immolation was premeditated, the court heard.
Both Tsering Tenzin and Tenchum confessed their guilt following the court proceedings.
The court also sentenced Drongdru, also a Kirti Monastery monk, to 11 years in prison for intentional homicide in Phuntsog's death.
According to the verdict, Drongdru tried to hide the injured monk and prevented emergency treatment. (ANI)
