Rebels using Gaddafi's private aircraft as a 'lounge'

Tripoli, Mon, 29 Aug 2011 ANI

Tripoli, August 29 (ANI): Rebels have taken over Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's private airliner after securing control of Tripoli's International Airport and are reportedly using it as a 'lounge'.

According to the Telegraph, rebels took turns to be photographed sitting in the deposed dictator's bedroom or on well-upholstered sofas on board the Airbus A340, which Gaddafi bought for 73 million pounds in 2003.

The same aircraft became infamous the world over in 2009 when Gaddafi sent it to Glasgow, with his son Saif al-Islam on board, to bring home the Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi.

Tripoli-based Afriqiyah airways operated the plane for Gaddafi, but the Airbus has been grounded since NATO imposed a no-fly zone over Libya six months ago. (ANI)
