Police ordered to foil abductors' bid to shift Shahbaz Taseer to Pak's tribal areas

Peshawar, Sun, 28 Aug 2011 ANI

Peshawar, August 28(ANI): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar has ordered police and political agents to ensure that the abductors of Shahbaz Taseer are not able to shift him to Pakistan's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

Shahbaz, the son of slain former Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, was abducted on gunpoint by unknown men from Lahore's Gulburg area on Friday.

"Kausar has contacted all the political agents of the FATA as well as the Inspector General of Police Fayaz Tooru to strictly monitor the situation," a government communique quoted the governor as saying.

"This is a very challenging task and there is a need to move efficiently and effectively, especially on all the entrance and exit routes in the areas of their jurisdictions in this connection," the governor remarked.

Earlier, Kausar contacted Shahbaz's mother, Aamna Taseer, on Saturday and expressed his "deep concern" over the abduction of her son, the Daily Times reported.

Kausar also talked to Punjab Governor Latif Khosa and assured to "go an extra mile" on his part to ensure Shahbaz's safe and early recovery.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor said that the incident had "shocked us all and we would never lag behind in our efforts to ensure safe and early recovery of Shahbaz Taseer." (ANI)
