Malaysian lawmaker calls for Indian representatives in universities' student council

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 27(ANI): Malaysia's Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah has said the country's universities must ensure that they have at least one Indian representative in the student council.

 

He said the move is a part of 1Malaysia's policy envisaged by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Malaysia Nanban reports.

 

1Malaysia Indian Students Movement (1MISM) is a movement launched by Najib to protect the rights and welfare of Malay- Indians studying in universities.

 

Saifuddin was speaking on the occasion of presenting financial grants to 25 Indian student councils in public and private universities.

 

1MISM president Mahaganapathy Dass said the grants would be used for the welfare of new undergraduates, the Star reports.

 

He said Malaysia's Higher Education Ministry had been instructed to ensure that vegetarian food is made available in all universities. (ANI)
