Canberra, Aug 27 (ANI): Australian Labor MP Craig Thomson has claimed to have 'travel documents and witness statements' that would prove that he was not the person using union money to pay for prostitutes.
Thomson told lawyers that he had 'independent flight records' that would clear him and it was 'impossible' he took 100,000 dollars to bankroll his election campaign, News.com.au reports.
In a letter dated May 1, 2009, Thomson said he was "not the only holder of a card" that had access to the Health Services Union bank account, and claimed that "all national office staff" had access.
On the allegation that he spent 330 dollars at a Sydney escort service called Aboutoun Catering on February 26, 2003, Thomson said that he was in Perth between February 21 and 27.
He also said he was in Melbourne on April 9, 2005, when 2,475 dollars was spent at Sydney escort services Keywed and 418 dollars at Sydney's Nolta Pty Ltd on June 11, 2005.
"Travel documents and witness statements will verify this fact," Thomson wrote.
It is the most detailed defense by Thomson, who earlier declined to take up various opportunities available to him to stand up in Parliament and give his full account of a saga that is dragging down an already drowning government. (ANI)
