Beijing, Aug 27 (ANI): China has voiced its firm opposition to the United State's annual report warning about the nation's rapid military buildup.
"It is an irresponsible act which does no good to enhance China-US strategic trust," Xinhua quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu, as saying.
In its recently unveiled annual report on China's military, the Pentagon warned Beijing has closed critical technological gaps and is rapidly modernizing its military equipment,
Zhaoxu said that the US Department of Defense has made similar reports in previous years, exaggerating China's military strength.
He stressed that China follows a path of peaceful development and utilizes a national defense policy that is purely defensive in nature, noting that country is devoted to safeguarding peace and stability in the Asian-Pacific region and the world at large.
"China develops limited armed forces purely for the purpose of safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity," Zhaoxu said.
The report, titled 'Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China', said that China made 'modest, but incremental, improvements in the transparency of its military,'
It also expressed 'uncertainty about how China will use its growing capabilities.' (ANI)
