In a first, Pak Senate to have four seats reserved for non-Muslims

Islamabad, August 26(ANI): Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has signed an amendment in the Senate (Election) Rules 1975, to reserve four seats for non-Muslims in the Upper House of Parliament.

The Senate will now have four seats reserved for non-Muslims, one from each province, The Express Tribune reports.

The members of each Provincial Assembly will elect the non-Muslims during the next Senate election.

This is for the first time that the Senate will also have reserved seats for non-Muslims. Previously, ten seats were reserved for non-Muslims in the National Assembly, but none in the Senate.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Senate Chairman Farooq H. Naek, the Leader of the House in Senate, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, and senators belonging to various political parties, besides senior government officials. (ANI)
