Tripoli, Aug 24 (ANI): Claiming that he would rather die like a martyr that being defeated by the rebels, Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi urges Tripoli residents to "cleanse" the Libyan capital of insurgents.
"All Libyans must be present in Tripoli, young men, tribal men and women must sweep through Tripoli and comb it for traitors," Gaddafi said in an audio broadcast on Al-Rai television.
"I have been out a bit in Tripoli discreetly, without being seen by people, and...I did not feel that Tripoli was in danger," Sky News quoted him, as saying.
Rebel forces swept into Gaddafi's compound on Tuesday, seizing weapons, his personal belongings, and destroying symbols of the longstanding dictatorship.
The National Transitional Council has outlining plans to lead after the Gaddafi regime, while search for the leader Continues.
There is widespread speculation that Gaddafi may have used a secret network of tunnels to escape and the US believes he remains in the country.
He has reportedly told an Arabic television station that his withdrawal was a tactic and promised death or victory against rebels.(AMI)
