Islamabad, August 23(ANI): In the latest attack on convoys in Pakistan carrying supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan, 19 NATO trucks were set ablaze in Mastung District by unidentified gunmen.
Five assailants fired on a convoy of trucks carrying gasoline for NATO troops in Afghanistan on Monday, Javed Sumalani, a local government official, told CNN.
After they fired on the trucks, the assailants set the gasoline ablaze, leading to a number of explosions.
The attackers escaped unharmed, Sumalani said.
Firefighters were called in to battle the relentless flames, however, no casualties have been reported.
Dozens of local residents were observed stealing fuel from one of the remaining trucks, which was overturned during the incident, the report said.
People risked potential explosions and swamped the truck, stealing fuel in buckets, pots and other makeshift containers.
NATO trucks and oil tankers are regularly targeted with arson attacks blamed on insurgents attempting to disrupt the two key supply lines, which cross western Pakistan bound for foreign troops fighting in neighbouring Afghanistan. (ANI)
