Indian student sentenced to ten-year imprisonment over car crash that killed three

Melbourne, August 22 (ANI): An Indian student has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment over a car crash that killed three people in Merton, Victoria.

 

Gurwinder Singh, 25, was speeding while overtaking a truck when he lost control, hitting a car traveling in the opposite direction. Singh had been at Mt Buller with friends for the day and was returning to Melbourne when, he swung onto the wrong side of the Maroondah Highway to overtake a truck without warning.

 

County Court judge Rachelle Lewitan said Indian national, Singh was on a student visa and will be deported at the end of his sentence.

 

Judge Lewitan sentenced Singh for ten and a half years and ordered that he serve at least seven before being eligible for parole.

 

Singh had a Victorian drivers license for ten months and qualified as a cabbie only a few weeks before the crash. (ANI)
