London, Aug 21 (ANI): Shrien Dewani, the Brit-Indian millionaire who has been charged with masterminding his wife's murder during their honeymoon in Cape Town last year, may not face trial over his wife Anni's death for years, legal experts have warned.

Although a judge has ruled that Dewani can be extradited to South Africa to face the murder charges, reports suggest that a final decision will now be taken by Home Secretary Theresa May, the Daily Mail reports.

May must announce her verdict by October, but Dewani can launch appeals against her decision and the judge's ruling.

May has currently asked Dewani to give a detailed account as to why he thinks he should not be extradited to South Africa. he Bristol care homes boss has argued that he would not receive a fair trial in South Africa and could be at risk of murder or rape in the country's prisons.

Lawyers predict May is likely to grant extradition, but a legal expert has said that: "Cases like this may involve complex issues and can take years to resolve."

Alleged British computer hacker Gary McKinnon has reportedly been fighting extradition to America for nearly a decade. (ANI)
