London, Aug 18 (ANI): James Murdoch, the son of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, is facing fresh calls to resign as chairman of the satellite broadcasting company BsykB, as he is being hauled back before a parliamentary committee that is investigating phone hacking revelations.
Ofcom is also investigating whether BSkyB is a 'fit and proper' company to have a broadcasting licence while James Murdoch is in charge, the Daily Mail reports.
Labour MP Chris Bryant said it is time for the chairman to quit following a 'bombshell' new letter claiming that phone-hacking was 'widely discussed' at the News Of The World and was condoned by editor Andy Coulson.
"If I were a shareholder in News Corp or BSkyB, I would be urging James Murdoch to step aside," Bryant said.
"The allegations go to the heart of whether he and the organization he runs are fit and proper to publish newspapers or run TV companies," he added.
It has been recently emerged that James mislead the UK Parliament over what all knew about now-defunct tabloid News of the World's phone-hacking scandal.
In evidence to a powerful Commons committee, James said the highly-respected legal firm Harbottle and Lewis had given News International 'a clean bill of health' following a review of emails relating to the phone-hacking scandal.
But the lawyers said that there were no chances of the firm being asked to provide News International with a clean bill of health. (ANI)
